Several thousand people took to the streets this weekend in San Sebastian in a silent march in support of Basque prisoners being held in Spanish detention. The march was conducted within the rules of the Basque Government which call for no pictures or banners denoting individual prisoners.

The march was also called to bring attention to the disappearance of Jon Anza a member of the ETA organisation. Leading the march were many relatives of prisoners who wore scarves around their necks in support of detainees.

Also at the head of the march was Alkalde Anjel a former ETA member who had been incarcerated. Other protesters included well-known local figures and many politicians.

The event was heavily policed including the use of an observation helicopter although police reports say there were no incidents and no arrests during the protest.
