The King of Spain, his majesty Juan Carlos is to abdicate, according to Spain’s prime minister.
His son, Crown Prince Felipe will become King, after his father’s nearly 40 year reign.
The unexpected announcement was made Monday morning by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
“His majesty, King Juan Carlos, has just communicated to me his will to give up the throne,” Rajoy said. “I’m convinced this is the best moment for change.”
The Kings healthy problems may be to blame.
