News that West Ham’s Chief Scout Jimmy Hampson is in Torrevieja and scouting for local talent for the new Elite Academy, headed up by FC Torrevieja’s Director of Football Tommy Taylor, has been inspiring local youngsters to play their very best. Case in point is the Under 10 Torrevieja ‘B’ team, who put 15 goals past a hapless Horadada team on Saturday.
Saturday’s game marked the start of the second half of the season and top of the table Torrevieja have yet to drop a point. Scoring 115 goals and conceding 15, the boys are hopeful of winning their category although teams from Los Montesinos, Algorfa and Cox will be trying their very best to make life as difficult as possible in the title race.
Win or lose this season, every home game and training session now represents an opportunity for their talents to be spotted and possibly offered a trial for the Academy, in conjunction with Torrevieja’s own youth teams and coaching staff. The Elite Academy is designed to nurture talent and additional to their normal training sessions. These are the boys who may be playing in La Liga, 2017!
