Spain’s tennis superstar Rafael Nadal is the defending champion at this year’s Australian Open, and he faces a stern test in the quarter finals as he takes on Briton Andy Murray. Both Nadal and Murray overcame big serving opponents in the fourth round, to set up an exciting encounter in the quarter final.
While Nadal defeated Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in four sets, Murray got the better of the USA’s John Isner 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets.
Nadal had 35 winners in over two hours and thirty minutes, and dropped his serve only once throughout the match, in the second set.
Nadal had won the Australian Open last year when he defeated Roger Federer in a marathon five-setter, and will look to defend his title this year as he aims to add to his tally of six grand slam titles. However, he has had an injury layoff and his last title win came in May last year.
