According to independent reports, Spain is going support Barack Obama’s new strategy against the Taliban in Afghanistan, for which the country intends to send 500 more troops to the war torn country.
Spain’s Defense Minister, Carme Chacon is expected to make this announcement in Parliament on Thursday. The Defense Minister is also expected to tell whether the 220 soldiers who returned from Afghanistan in November would be amongst those to be sent or not. Spain currently stations 1000 soldiers in Afghanistan.
The Spanish Army is will be concentrated in the Bagdhis providence and is expected to train the new Afghan Army to fight the Taliban.
Three new brigades of American forces are expected to join the existing strength, bringing the total number of American troops to 100,000 in Afghanistan. Hundreds of thousands people have lost their lives up till now since Afghanistan’s takeover by the Taliban in 1996.
