This week will see the opening of a new exhibition at Mallorca Espai Barcelona, the show will go by the name “Exquisite Corpse” and will feature the works of over 50 artists.
The exhibit will be opened on Tuesday by Pere Joan Martorell, Minister for culture. The show will feature pieces that use the “cadavre exquis” (Exquisite Corpse ) surrealist style, which links words or images collectively.
The style first appeared around 1925 and was based on a game in which players wrote a word on a piece of paper, which they then folded to conceal the word, and then passed it to the next player who added another word.
The surrealists expanded the concept into a form of random art, which is still popular today. All of the artists in this exhibition are from the Balearic Islands.
