The new film Saw VI was due in cinemas across Spain this weekend, until producers cancelled the screening after the Spanish Ministry for Culture gave the film an X rating.
The film was said to have been so packed with violence the ratings commission awarded it an X.
This is the first time that the Spanish ratings commission has awarded an X due to violence, something usually given to movies featuring pornographic or erotic content.
The decision is said to have infuriated the movie’s distributors at Buena Vista, who have filed an appeal against the rating.
The “Saw” franchise has enjoyed a huge success in Spain, with previous installments earning over 4 million Euros.
