A visit by the foreign minister of Spain to Cuba on a goodwill mission, has prompted the release of two prisoners from a Cuban jail, one Spanish man and one Cuban man.

In a strange “exchange” for the release of a Spanish businessman who was imprisoned in Cuba, a Cuban man was released from jail who was imprisoned after the Government cracked down on opponents back in 2003, partially causing a huge diplomatic rift between the two countries.

The Cuban man was Nelson Aguiar who was released, despite a 13 year Sentence, on Tuesday morning and returned to his home in Havana.

In “exchange”, the Cuban officials also released a Spanish businessman who was accused of bribing Cuban officials, although he will remain in Cuba until the end of his trial.
