Spain is placing an increased amount of pressure on Brussels, hoping for further intervention when it comes to the way the Opel – General Motors Spanish unit will be restructured by Magna of Canada.

Industry minister Miguel Sebastian wrote in a letter today, that the company reconstruction must keep in mind that all new organization should focus on maximizing the company’s efficient assets, by basing the restructure on commercial and financial criteria.

This is possibly Sebastian’s way of saying that the company should take close notice of Opel’s Zaragoza plant, which is located in northern Spain, and is one of the most efficient plants of all of GM’s operators in Europe.

Spanish GM workers face the loss of over 10,000 jobs along with workers from the UK and Belgium with the new reorganization plans by Magna.
