Ranked number two in the world, Spain’s Rafael Nadal, has been forced to pull out of this year’s PTT Thailand Open held in Bangkok due to injury. He stated in an interview yesterday that he was extremely disappointed and regretful about not being able to make the Bangkok tournament.

He has had the stomach injury for some time and was playing through it in the USA over the summer but now feels that it is essential to allow the injury enough time to fully recover rather than try to carry on.

He has apparently ruptured one of the muscles on the right side of his abdomen and there is no real cure apart from simple rest.

A few days ago he sent an e-mail announcing his decision to the Thai tennis authorities, bowing out at the tournament and apologising to the organisers and Thai tennis fans.
