This year’s Champions League has seen the introduction of a new ball, which is lighter and has unpredictable movement in the air, making the job of goalkeepers harder than ever.
Iker Casillas, goalkeeper of Real Madrid and Spain, duly addressed the issue this Thursday after the first round of Champions League group matches and harshly criticized the new ball. He said he had a talk with Petr Cech (Chealsea) and Pepe Reina (Liverpool) about the issue.
Casillas even went on to call the new ball a “total disaster”. He concluded that he would prefer the balls used in La liga better, as they move straighter and are easier to predict.
