Sunday the citizens of a small town in Catalonia, called Arenys de Munt, decided to succeed from the country of Spain in a poll which is only symbolic but shows that the Spanish government needs to take action to combat the effects of the recession.

Catalan voteOut of 8,000 residents in Arenys de Munt, 96 per cent voted for the independent Catalonia in a vote organized by a separatist commission.

The news of the poll was released directly after the Spanish Constitutional Court voted to overturn a new statue that would outline the Catalan boundaries in terms of how it fits within the state of Spain.

Catalans feel that by setting new boundaries the ruling will ignore the aspirations of the Catalan people who have tried hard for the last several hundred years to keep their own identity and language despite inclusion in Spain
