Spain is the latest country to publicly state that it believes that there should be a Palestinian nation based on the original borders of 1967. Miguel Moratinos Spanish Foreign Minister said yesterday that the world cannot keep waiting for a peace settlement in the Middle East.
Spain was host to peace talks between Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Egypt and Israel back in 1991 at which point there was a tentative agreement for some kind of self-government in Palestine which would have been followed by further negotiations to bring about a Palestinian nation.
Despite this the Palestinian and Israeli problem, refuses to go away. Moratinos made his statement at a press conference in Ramallah, following talks with Palestinian representatives.
He also condemned the ongoing settlement of former Palestinian areas along the West Bank by the Israeli government and civilian settlers.
