The government has given the go-ahead that will see the arrival of Spain’s first digital pay TV channel. According to Maria Teresa de la Vega who is the Deputy Prime Minister it was essential to bring in proper regulations for this kind of service which is new to Spain so that it can begin on the right foot.

Mediapro which is a regular free TV broadcaster is said to be happy about the new law that should see it in a position to broadcast football matches live in return for a subscription.

But with the ink not even dry on the new law rival free to air company Prisa has said it will appeal against the new regulations with some haste as analogue signals across Spain are set to be switched off for good in April next year.
