August may be marked with airline strikes as an official from the Spanish airline union has called for strikes to occur every Monday and Friday throughout the busy holiday month.
The CCOO and USO workers unions have called for a 24 strike to commence on August 12, 22, 29 for all EasyJet maintenance staff work in Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Malaga, and Tenerife which will affect about 100 flights total each day.
Spanair United workers unions plan to hold strikes every Monday and Friday in August.
Air Comet representative unions have issued strikes for Aug. 11, 12, 16, 17, 24, and on the 25th between 12h-14h and 21h-23h.
Each of the unions is calling for the strikes to address the low pay, working hours, wage payments that have been delayed, and holiday allowances that are currently given to union workers.
The only airport not to be affected in Spain by the strikes will be the Barajas Airport since EasyJet contracts its ground maintenance work to other companies outside the union.
“easyJet communications manager, Andrew McConnell, told SpanishNews.es: “easyJet has been notified of a call for industrial action by its ground handling agents in several Spanish airports on the 15th, 22nd and 29th of August. Check-in agents as well as easyJet pilots and cabin crew members are not involved in this possible industrial action. easyJet is working hard to minimise the impact any action may have on it’s customers.”
