In the first five months of the year 18.3 million tourists came to Spain from abroad. An 11.8 per cent decrease from the same period in 2008, according to the latest survey by Frontur.
In 2008 a historic maximum was reached with 20.8 million foreign tourists visiting Spain. In the month of May this year, 5 million tourists visited Spain, an 11.7 per cent decrease compared to the same month in 2008.
The main source of tourists from abroad are the United Kingdom, Germany and France, which all registered less visits in May, with decreases of 16.3, 13.8 and 12.5 per cent respectively. These three countries contribute 62% of the total visits to Spain.

The government announced in May, that it expects tourism to decrease in summer by 10 per cent.
