Spain has the highest rate of cocaine use in the European Union, which makes it no surprise that the country is trying out new measures against cocaine addiction.
The researchers will test a vaccine that they hope will allow addicts to break free from their addiction to cocaine.
As reporters were told at a news conference, the vaccine does not eliminate the craving for the drug however it should stop the addict experiencing a high when they take it.
The researchers have already tested the vaccine on 164 people at hospitals around Spain during the first six months of 2008. The clinical trial, which was approved by the European Medican Agency, could be extended to other European countries.
