The auto industry in Spain is said to stop production at most factories around the country from the 1st December. 16,000 out of the total 72,000 employees in the auto industry throughout Spain are affected by the “ERE” (Expedientes de Regularizacion de Empleo – referring to a plan to regulate employment).
This year alone the auto industry in Spain is making 300,000 cars less than in 2007. Several statements coming from the auto industry indicate that the “halt” could last into January. The important point to note here is that this only mentions those directly involved in the auto production. One has to add to this the effect for suppliers and thrid-parties linked to the auto industry.
The list of companies affected is long including Nissan, Volkswagen, Porsche, Ford, Citroën, and Dacia.
