Costa del Sol Flash Floods

The state meteorological agency (Aemet) has issued a red alert due to the weather, which has caused serious damage along the Costa del Sol and two deaths.

Flash floods have inundated various parts along the Costa as a whopping 218 liters of water per meter fell in under 12 hours on Sunday.

Major flooding has been recorded in Malaga as well as Estepona, with a total of 730 registered incidents. In Torremolinos a dog shelter has been severly damaged after a number of pine trees collapsed.

The motorway underpass in San Luis de Sabinillas has been completely flooded due to the flash flood and electricity has been cut off in various parts of the town.

The education councillor has announced that schools have been closed in Estepona, Manilva, Casares, Mijas pueblo and Cartama. Some due to difficulties in access and others due to damage caused by the rain.

In Palos de la Frontera, Huelva a hurricane has wreaked havoc to the berry plantations.

Marbella has seen a number of roads and under passes flooded as well as serious damage to its beaches.

Local authorities are calling it the worst rains since 1989.
