22 provinces throughout Spain are on alert due to rain, storms and strong winds according to Spain’s meteorological weather agency (Aemet).

In Coruña, Pontevedra and Lugo heavy rainfall with up to 40 liters per square meter and winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour are expected.

Malaga, Barcelona, Girona, Salamanca, Tarragona, Alicante, Castellon, Valencia, Caceres, Lugo, Ourense and Murcia are on yellow alert for rainfall of up to 25 liters per hour.

Heavy winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour are expected in Cantabria, Burgos, Leon, Palencia, Lugo, Ourense, Vizcaya, Alava, Guipuzcoa and Asturias.

The Civil Protection and Emergency Agency urges citizens to take precautions and suggests that civil collaboration is essential. Earlier this week an elderly British couple swept to their deaths in Benidorm flash floods.
