The President of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT), Joan Molas, insisted on his petition to have the sector’s VAT reduced as well as on measures to reactivate the sector which is forecast to grow by 2% by the end of the year as opposed to the expected 5%.

Molas declared that the increase in VAT from 7 to 8% prior to the summer was a “hard blow” for the sector’s businessmen, given that they had to assume the difference as a result of already having agreed on prices with airlines and travel agencies.

Molas declared that if there is a sector that can help get the country’s economy go forward it is the tourism and services sector, something which requires political will.
