According to a new study prepared by officials of the Spanish Society of Contraception and the Study Circle of Contraception, 38.4% of young adolsecent girls in Spain between the ages of 19 and 29 have admitted to having had sexual relations without using contraceptives with 30% of them admitting to having consumed alcohol prior to the encounter.

In the Basque country the figures for unprotected sex are higher with 47.3% admitting to having had unprotected sex and in the Balearic Islands and Madrid the figures are 40% and 36.6%, respectively.

Six out of ten also consider that drinking eliminates barriers to having sex “a lot” and “quite a lot”.

The study also revealed the most popular methods of contraceptives, with the condom used by 44.5%, followed by the pill 28.8% and the ring 7.4%.

The study was via questionnaire to 3,163 women between the ages of 18 and 29.
