A new report from Unicef has found that one out of four children (around 24.1%) are at risk of relative poverty, living in homes where the income is below 60% of the national average (around 14,300 euros per year in homes with two adults and one child below the age of 14 or at 16,680 euros in homes with two adults and two minors).

The report shows that Spain is at the bottom of the list of 27 European Union members, only above Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Italy.

“Being at risk of relative poverty does not necessarily mean deprivation, which also occurs in many situations,” but clearly exclusion and reduced opportunities, “said the director of the Spanish Committee for UNICEF, Paloma Escudero.
