Health expenditures as a direct result of overweight and obesity disorders are costing Spain 5,000 million euros, or 7% of the country’s health budget.
Spain has a “serious problem” says the President of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, Roberto Sabrido with 14% of adults suffering from obesity. Another 40% are considered overweight.
Figures show that overweight and obesity disorders affect mainly the lower classes and women in particular.
Sabrido emphasized the “very worrying” data in the case of minors, “28% of children between 2 and 17 years of age are overweight or obese.”
