The President of Catalunya’s Partido Popular party, Alicia Sanchez-Camacho, has proposed the creation of a contract of intentions for immigrants in which they agree to go back to their country if they find themselves out of a job.

The contract would be a minimum requirement to renovate the residency permit as well as the working permit for foreigners.

The proposed contract would require that immigrants commit to “working towards integration, respecting the customs and culture of Catalunya as well as learning the official language [Catalan].

The candidate for the PSC and President of the Generalitat, Jose Montilla, has rejected this contract and has dismissed the speech on immigration in the PPC as “miserable and based on populism and demagoguery.”
