A huge forest fire has destroyed over 100 hectares of nature on the popular tourist holiday island of Ibiza in the Balearic Islands on Sunday. The fires forced emergency services to evacuate over 1,000 people from a beach by boat where they were celebrating an open air party as well as local residents from 40 different housing complexes.
The fire broke out in the Benirràs area of Sant Joan on Sunday. The fires left 24 vehicles completely incinerated and destroyed an area of 100 hectares of natural vegetation.
Three people have been injured by smoke inhalation and minor burns.
The affected area had been the victim of a fire 20 years ago and managed to recover.
