After days of speculation, rumours and contradicting media reports, the White House office of Michelle Obama has confirmed, the First Lady will be visiting Spain with her youngest daughter Sasha. US President Obama will not be travelling to Spain. The communiqué also confirmed an official visit to the King and Queen of Spain.

“The first lady will travel to Spain next week for a private, mother-daughter trip with longtime family friends. President Obama will not be joining this trip.

While in Spain, Mrs. Obama will pay an official visit to Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain at their invitation.

All activities are closed press.”

Although the dates have not been confirmed, the US First Lady will most probably travel to Marbella and stay from the 4th to the 8th August. The mother-daugther holiday will be spent at the luxurious Villa Padierna in Marbella.

The director of Villa Padierna, Ricardo Arranz, has confirmed the 40 rooms have been reserved to host the Obamas, but stated that final confirmations are yet to be made. The Villa Padierna owner also states that it was “an enormous responsibility” for businessmen and workers on the Costa del Sol.

The Villa Padierna Hotel, part of the Ritz-Carlton chain is considered one of the best in Spain.

The company describes the hotel as: “Surrounded by the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean, this five star hotel in Marbella offers guests a relaxing retreat where luxurious accommodations, championship golf, and a lavish spa give way to awe-inspiring views of the Costa del Sol.”
