The often refered to “favourite” Spain, was beaten by Switzerland 0-1. Although Spain had a strong possession of the ball and most shots on goal, the ball just never appeared to go in.

Switzerland scored a goal during a chaotic moment of the game (minute 52) and later took another shot hitting the post. “The Spanish defended horribly” said Josy, 21 year-old fan from Madrid. The pressure on Spain has just gotten greater as fans are shocked and disappointed.

Ottmar Hitzfeld, the Swiss coach statest that the pressure Spain had on itself as the World Cup favourite allowed Switzerland to win the game 1-0.

“This is of course not a good sign that we start off this way,” Spain coach Vicente del Bosque, whose team had won all but one of its previous 28 games before yesterday, told reporters. “We really must give everything. We can’t just leave our heads hanging, we have to fight for it.”

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa goes on. Will Spain get far? Time will tell.
