Tennis was top of the agenda on Saturday June 12 when hundreds of spectators, tennis players and government representatives made their way to Torrevieja’s Sports City to inaugurate the first of the zone’s new facilities. Mayor Pedro Hernandez and Councilor for Sports, Daniel Plaza, toured the spectacular racket sports area, which covers an area of over 30,000 square meters, with 10 tennis courts for public and club use plus a center court for competition.

The centre show court was the location for the inauguration ceremony and an impressive site it is. With a normal capacity for 700 spectators, additional tiered seating can be added to extend the capacity to 2,000 spectators for a showcase event

The Major received a Tennis Racquet as par of the presentation from the Torrevieja Tennis Club who’s members then participated in several exhibition games of tennis all the sports complex. Mateo Hernandez congratulated the company who built the facilities and praised the spectacular nature of this area that has become the most important sports complex in the Vega Baja district.

On June 18 the Rugby facilities shall be inaugurated with an international ‘seven’s competition’ followed by the Torrevieja Cup football tournament on June 23.
