The rain endured during the past months in large parts of Andalucia have not only resulted in countless homes being destroyed and as much as 427,000 hectares of agricultural land suffering damade, but also in endless kilometers of beaches destroyed.

Taking into consideration that Easter holidays are coming up, the Ministry of Environment announced Wednesday that it would provide 80 million euros to urgently repair the damage to the beaches and coastal areas around Andalucia.

The reality in the political arena appears to be rather less upbeat, with local politicians complaining that nothing has been done yet and sources at the Ministry of Environment now stating that all that can be done for Easter is a “lavado de cara” (literally meaning a face clean) by removing a bamboos, stones and other debris that currently litter most beaches in Andalucia.
