The national institute of statistics (INE) has registered 5,648,671 foreigners in Spain, 12 per cent of the total population.

These figures show an increase of 380,000 foreigners, nevertheless it does not take into account those people who were registered but have in the meantime left the country.

Ontop of this figure there are those people who are still waiting for their residency to be renewed as well as those who are not registered. The national institute of statistics receives over one million variations every single month of which 800,000 are errors and incidents with regional governments.

The number of foreigners who are “empadronado” in Spain has increased six fold over the past ten years.

The biggest collective with highest presence in Spain are those from Morroco, followed by those from Romania and Ecuador.
