Spain will honor Iranian film-maker Majid Majidi with the Ibn Arabi Award on 14 February. Majidi will be presented the award in Murcia in south-east Spain by the mayor of the city, acknowledging his contribution to the promotion of good morals and spiritual values.
In 1998, Majidi’s movie ‘Children of Heaven’ had been nominated in the Best Foreign Language film category at the Oscars.
Many of Majidi’s films are scheduled to be screened in Murcia, which is considered to be the native place of Muhyiddiin Ibn Arabi, who was a Muslim philosopher who lived around the thirteenth century. Murcia first claimed him as one of its citizens in 1990 when his 750th death anniversary was commemorated at a conference attended by scholars from across the world.
