Clara Sanchez has won oldest prize for literature in Spain, the Nadal prize, according to reports published by the media on Wednesday. The Nadal prize was first awarded in 1944 by the Destino publishing house based in Barcelona, and the tradition has continued till date. Sanchez has been awarded 18000 euro as the prize.
Sanchez, the famous newspaper columnist and author, who is aged 54, has won the prize for her novel “Lo que esconde tu nombre” which means “What your name hides”. The novel is based on two men who are aged above 80 years, one of whom lives in Spain and is a former Nazi, while the other lives in Argentina and is one of the survivors of a concentration camp in Mauthausen.
Sanchez is a columnist for the Spanish newspaper El Pais, and has eight other books to her credit which have been translated into many languages including German, Russian, French, Greek and Portuguese.
Maruja Torres was last year’s winner of the Nadal prize for her novel “Esperadme en el Cielo” meaning “Wait for me in Heaven“.
