A British couple carrying one and a half kg of banned narcotic substance cocaine was arrested at Alicante’s El Altet airport on Friday.  The Spanish police Guardia Civil said that a 53 year old man, A.M and a 57 years old woman, A.G were arrested.

The couple was caught when police officers checking the woman’s baggage in the departures queue found three packets of white substance which tested positive for cocaine, after which search for her companion started and 2 more packets were found in the man’s luggage. The couple was waiting to board an Easyjet flight when they were stopped.

Guardia Civil also said that it’s anti drug operation in Santa Pola led to the arrest of eight people. Five kilos of marijuana and 600 grams of hashish were recovered in the operation. The operation which was carried out in three houses in Elche and surrounding area has so far been successful leading to the arrest of 8 people, of which 2 are females. All the suspects are between 20-45 years of age.
