Jordi Solé Tura, who was considered by many to be the ‘Father of the Spanish Constitution’, passed away at his home in Barcelona. He was aged 79 and had his family and friends by his side when he took his last breath. He had been fighting Alzheimer’s since 2004.

Jordi Solé Tura had played an important role in bringing democracy in Spain and served as Minister of Culture in the Felipe Gonzalez led democratic government. The Congress observed a minute’s silence in his honor on Friday and praise started coming in from all corners as news of his passing away spread.

Jordi Solé Tura was a highly intellectual person and a student activist. He had been to prison in 1969 for a period of six months. Besides having studied at the Sorbonne, he was a great writer and was one amongst the seven writers who wrote the Spanish Constitution.
