The Influenza A virus claimed lives of two more women aged 63 and 68 taking the toll in Catalonia to twelve. According to Conselleria de Salut de la Generalitat, Barcelona, the virus is increasing its grip with number of deaths rising this week. The incidence rate has also doubled from 289.5 cases per 100,000 to 483.77 cases per 100,000.

The data used to derive these figures included the number of patients who visited Primary Care Centers, stacking up to roughly 830,000 a week. Phone calls at the numbers authorized by the Ministry of Health have increased tremendously suggesting that people are adhering to government’s recommendation to visit hospitals only with a more serious case.

130 cases of Influenza A have been reported so far in the province of Catalonia, twelve of them resulting in deaths and another 40 are still hospitalized, with 22 of them in a critical condition.
