Hospitals in Sant Joan de Déu and the Clinic of Barcelona became first hospitals in Europe to provide Pediatric Tissue Bank services. These hospitals aim to increase the supply of Pediatric Tissues by collecting them from all the hospitals in Spain.

The need of such institutions was long felt as roughly 40% of cardio vascular tissue requests for infants are left unfulfilled in Spain. The unavailability, in many cases, is compensated by using tissue from adults which has a lesser degree of success. Many tribulations including tumors, cyst, fractures and tendon replacements are cured by bone tissue transplant, which is the most extensively used tissue.

With the opening of such hospitals, patients can now expect better chances of getting the required tissue in a timely manner, and one can hope this initiative will help in spreading awareness in the society about such a grievous concern.
