Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has said that Spanish striker Fernando Torres is not fit to play in next week’s friendly against Argentina. But, Benitez did not rule him out playing for Liverpool in Monday’s match against Birmingham.

Torres doubtful to play against Argentina due to fitness concernsTorres, who has been experiencing trouble in his groin for a month now, is in Spain to consult a specialist to find out whether a surgery is required. He had last played in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Olympique Lyon in the Champions League.

Benitez has informed Spain’s national side that he does not think that Torres is fit enough to play against Argentina at home on November 14. He also said that a decision needed to be made whether he should play against Birmingham, but agreed it is possible that Torres would play through the pain barrier once again to help Liverpool stay afloat in the Champions League. Liverpool has also lost five of the 11 games they have played in the Premier League this year.
