A wildfire broke out in Cerro Del Piojo at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday morning due to which the residents of El Olmedo were evacuated to a safer place as efforts to control the blaze were being carried out simultaneously. The wildfire was brought under control a few hours later by 1 p.m.

Several properties, numbering between 50 and 60, were in danger as the blaze tried to spread and at one point even the railway line and the hotel complex Holiday World were also under the threat of the wildfire.

The fire-fighting operation was made difficult by the high intensity winds blowing across the area but the fire was reported to have been brought under control within four hours after it broke out.
