Spanish and French forces left behind an air base in Kyrgyzstan after their NATO deals to use it as an aircraft refuelling point for forces fighting in Afghanistan were cancelled.

The country cancelled the deals in June, although the US is able to continue to use the air base in Manas, after they agreed to pay a higher amount for access.

The end of the agreement resulted in the removal of 60 soldiers, and two Hercules C-130 freighter planes belonging to Spain, and 40 French servicemen from the airbase.

At the moment, both countries are trying to renegotiate terms that will allow them to have access to the air base again.
