Saturday brought with it the protests of thousands of people in San Sebastian against the arrest of Basque militants who were part of the outlawed pro-independence political party.

Protestors demanded that five militants be released. The militants were arrested for attempting to rebuild the banned Basque political wing of ETA, called Batasuna.

The large group included representatives and protestors from nationalist parties, union activists, and left wing independence militants.

The four militants were detained on Friday, following orders from Judge Baltasar Garzon who stated that they were part of a terrorist sect, and aimed to rebuild the Batasuna following orders from the banned ETA Basque terrorist group.
