Spain is looking at the Washington bilateral summit next week, as the time to secure a deal with the US Government to have three inmates moved to Spain from the US Cuba detention centre in Guantanamo.

A source from the Spanish Government stated on Thursday that the country is hoping to close the dossier with America, and secure the transfer of three or less prisoners from the US prison to Spain. The meeting will take place on October 13th at the White House, between US president Barack Obama and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

The source also stated that the prisoners have already been selected and that the only thing left was minor negotiations. The aim of the move is to aid the US in closing the Guantanamo prison doors. Washington had asked previously that Madrid consider taking a minimum of five prisoners.
