Spain is currently negotiating to free the Alakrana tuna trawler, which was hijacked near the coast of Somalia, in the Indian Ocean, last week.

But the defence minister warned on Monday that it may take longer than the families desire to free the crew.

The owner of the ship, Echebaster Fleet, said that the ship and its crew of 26 were anchored near a Somali port.

On Monday an Istanbul registered ship was released by Somali pirates, which had been hijacked on July 9th , so good news may not come quickly for the Spanish sailors, but at least the crew of the Istanbul based ship were all in good health, according to a company official.
