Thursday, the nuclear regulator of Spain said that it will look at, and closely inspect the Confrentes nuclear power plant, after a portion of the fuel rod at the 1,000 megawatt station was dropped.

In a statement regarding the incident, the Nuclear Safety Council said that the event on Tuesday, was ranked a “one” in threat on the International Nuclear Events Scale, but that the environment, workers, and population was not at risk from it.

One is the lowest ranking that can be given on the scale, with the last serious incident occurring last year when a radioactive leak was not handled properly at a power plant called the Asco 1 which resulted in a 15.4 M Euro fine for the operators.
