Much loved stage and screen actor Sir Ian McKellen is set to receive an award at the film festival in San Sebastian later this month where he will be given a special lifetime achievement award.

McKellen received an Oscar nod for his appearance in the 1998 movie Gods and Monsters.

Sir Ian who is now 70 will receive the Donostia Award in recognition of being one of the world’s major theatre, TV and film actors. He is best known to most film fans for his portrayal of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movies as well as his appearance in X-Men as Magneto.

The festival runs from the 18th to the 26th of this month and is the 57th film festival in San Sebastian.
