Spanish airport authorities AENA announced Friday, Malaga airport saw 8.8 per cent less passengers passing through its installations and 13.4 per cent less flights during the month of August, revealing the worst figures in years.
The number of British tourists arriving in Malaga during the first quarter compared to the same period in 2008 dropped by 15.6 per cent. A total of 1,068,000 Britons travelled through Malaga Airport during the first half of 2009.
Spain’s network of airports registered in August over 21 million passengers and more than 210,000 flights. The latest figures show an overall decrease in passengers of 5.5 per cent and a decrease of 7.8 per cent of number of flights compared to the same month in 2008.
In the first 8 months of 2009, the Spanish airports registered 127 million passengers and nearly 1.5 million flights, revealing a 10.6 per cent and 11.8 per cent decrease respectively.
