Spain still says the 2016 Olympics will be theirs

The president of the Olympic committee for Spain, Alejandro Blanco, said that he believes that Madrid is still in the number one position as the potential host of the games in 2016.

Next month will see the announcement in Copenhagen of which city will have the honour and a prestige of hosting the games. The competitors are Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, and the American city of Chicago.

This flies in the face of a report published a few days ago by the International Olympic Evaluation Committee which spotlighted many issues relating to the Spanish organisation of the games and doping problems in Spanish sport.

Blanco did acknowledge these problems and said that Spain was more than willing to resolve any problems that the Olympic committee found and would do everything in its power to satisfy the requirements necessary to bring the games to Madrid.
