Eighteen-year-old fun loving Madelynne Butcher who had aspirations to become a doctor has been struck down by swine flu and died after being contaminated on the Spanish island of Tenerife while on holiday with her friends.

She is said to have become short of breath and felt sick on return to Southampton from the island where she had been celebrating her A Level results.

The fit and healthy young woman spent nearly three weeks in hospital but eventually succumbed to the effects of H1N1 flu. Her parents Beverley and Alan are obviously distraught and confused as to how such an active and healthy young lady could be struck down in this way.
