A large 9 metre yacht which was stopped by the Spanish coast guard on its way from the Dutch Antilles was found to be carrying over 245 kilos of cocaine. The boat was then taken to Vigo and the crew members were arrested.

The drug smugglers on the boat and at raided businesses on the mainland were a mixed bunch of Colombian, Spanish, British, Italian and Dutch nationals.

Operation ‘Candlelight’ conducted raids in Marbella and Fuengirola including two prominent restaurants and a car dealership and seized goods including over 50 mobile phones, more than 20 computers and laptops, nearly 20 cars and even a jet ski.

They found cash in the amount of 300,000 Euros and a handgun as well as heroin, hash, and cocaine. The operation was a joint venture between the UK Serious Organised Crime Agency and Spanish Agencia Tributaria
