Despite hope that Valencia could host the play-off of the 33rd America’s Cup yachting tournament in 2010, it was not chosen to host the event because the judge would not wait for the return of the spring months to hold the rematch.

Valencia loses America’s cup to UAEInstead, the United Arab Emirates will host the event using the waters of Ras Al-Jaima according to an announcement by the Geneva Nautical Society.

The cup will only include the winners of last years cup, the Swedish Alinghi and the challengers the New Zealand BMW team.

Acting Mayor Alfonso Grau of Valencia stated that although the weather may not be up to par for the rematch, they are hoping that if Alinghi once again takes the title Valenica may be considered again to host the 24th America’s Cup.
